Carolyn Ann Arjes, 81, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on May 9, 2024, in Tempe, Arizona. Carolyn was born January 25, 1943, in Sandwich, IL.
Carolyn grew up in Paw Paw, IL with her two sisters Barbara and Becki. She graduated from Paw Paw High School, Class of 1961, and married her high school sweetheart, Richard Arjes on
October 28, 1962, in Paw Paw, IL. Richard and Carolyn lived in Rochelle, IL and raised their family there until 1978 when they moved to Tempe, AZ.
She is preceded in death by her father, Orion Hunter (1988), her mother, Marian Hunter (2012), and sister Deborah Hunter (1953). Carolyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard Arjes, and their children, Beth Arjes Parker of Tempe, AZ and Todd (Kelley) Arjes of Gilbert, AZ, her grandchildren, Jared Parker, Zachary Parker of Tempe, AZ, Trevor Arjes of Oak Ridge, TN and Kylee Arjes of Mesa, AZ. Step grandchildren Mackenzie and Molly Rhodes of Chandler, AZ. Carolyn’s two sisters, Barbara (Rich) Huls of Queen Creek, AZ and Becki (Bill) Westbrook of Sandwich, IL. Carolyn has many nieces and nephews and a great grand-daughter Lilly Mae Arjes of Gilbert, AZ. Extended family in Tucson includes David and Lupita Lyon and their children Sofia (Jacob) Skaalen, Joshua Lyons and Daniel Lyons.
Carolyn enjoyed being a housewife and mother. She also worked outside the home for Avery Dennison in Rochelle, IL and Medtronic in Tempe, AZ. She made friends easily and had an
amazing smile that would put everyone around her at ease. She was a strong woman of faith and attended Grace Community Church in Tempe, AZ for 30 years. She was active in the
Momentum Sunday School Class and attended Summit Senior Adult at Grace when her health permitted. Carolyn was creative and enjoyed making jewelry, painting, making cards, and she
was a great cook. Carolyn was the first to send a card or make a phone call to check-in with family and friends and pray. Carolyn was a prayer warrior. In recent years she was attending
Arizona Community Church and appreciated the online services. Carolyn and Richard had a heart for ministering to children at an orphanage in Mexico and Sunshine Acres in Mesa, AZ.
A memorial service will be held on July 27, 2024, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Arizona Community Church 9325 S. Rural Road, Building G, Room 2 in Tempe, AZ 85284. In
