Irene Clayton, 86, formerly of Compton, Illinois passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 16, 2020 surrounded by family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was born in Keenes, Illinois on October 21, 1933 to Lulu and Fred Keen. On November 26, 1949 she married Roger White. She married Dale Clayton on July 20, 1963.

Irene is survived by her children: Ronald (Joel Sterkes) White of Xenia, IL, Kathy (Randy Weller) Daniels of Hillsboro, IL, Steven (Dawn) White of Ashton, IL, Patricia Doyle of Streator, IL, Mary (David) Stumpenhorst of Esmond, IL, Randy (Barbara) White of Steward, IL, Michael (Karla) Clayton of Buffalo, MO, Mark (Sheri) Clayton of Paw Paw, IL, stepchildren; Richard (Gisela) Clayton of Compton, IL, Shirley Olivier of Rochelle, IL, Doris Grimley of Rochelle, IL; thirty-three grandchildren; one hundred four great and great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Clayton; stepson, Orville Clayton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Keen; two sisters Doris Harris and Ruby Hildreth.

More than anything Irene loved spending time with family. She was an avid cook, gardener and home canner. Her other favorite pastimes included card playing, fishing and dancing. She will be remembered for her ability to entertain a crowd with her storytelling and her openness to welcome anyone into her home.

Cremation care has been provided. Private services will be held for the family with a memorial to be announced for friends and extended family at a later date.     I remember cousin Irene’s sweet smile at the family reunions I know she is up in heaven enjoying catching up with her loveones

  2. My condolences to the family. I only really knew her as Mark’s mom but it was obvious from him that she was a very special lady. A life very worthy of celebrating!

    was chewing us out for doing something stupid. I can still see that smile and hear her laugh. RIP Irene.
