Donna Joy Morton, age 87, of Newark, went to rest in Jesus at home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was born at home in Hewitt, MN on April 6, 1937, to Guy Chester and Winifred (Russell) Chapman. She attended the Maplewood Seventh-day Adventist Academy in Maplewood, MN. She married the love of her life, John Everett Morton on September 22, 1957, in Sheridan, IL.
Donna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Once the kids were in school, she went back to school herself to get her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She was a longtime leader and matriarch of the Sheridan Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Donna is survived by her five children, Cynthia Clark of Aurora, CO, John Allen Morton and Dean Morton of Sheridan, Janet Harnden of West Peoria, IL, and Brian (Shawn) Morton of Yakima, WA; seven grandchildren, David Price, John Everett Morton II, Heather (Michael) Hienrich, John (Jessica Brown) Luttrell, Andrew (Kendra) Luttrell, Cody Luttrell, and Cynnandra Hilde; thirteen great-grandchildren, Charlie, Winnie, Iris, Pamela, Axel, Jack, Jemma, Joscelin, Jennifer, Cole, Calvin, Claire, and Thea; two sisters, Marilyn White and Esther Rodney; and a brother, Harlo Chapman.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Everett Morton; two brothers, Duane and Orin Chapman; and a sister in infancy.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. (doors open at 2:30 p.m.) on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Sheridan Seventh-day Adventist Church, 200 W. Church Street in Sheridan, IL with Steven Bell officiating. We look forward to resurrection morning when Jesus comes to claim his own and we are all reunited in Heaven.
