Darlene H. McLaughlin, 99, passed away Jan. 9, 2012, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center in DeKalb, Ill.
She was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Paw Paw, to Fred and Elizabeth (Becker) Etzbach. She lived in Paw Paw for most of her life. On May 17, 1936, she married Dee McLaughlin. She attended Northern Illinois University when it was a teaching school and taught elementary school in the country schools and then in Paw Paw for many years. She was an active member of Paw Paw Methodist Church and a member of the Lee County Republican Women for many years. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was an avid card player.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Jacki) McLaughlin of DeKalb; three granddaughters, Michelle (Jim) Bohlig of Sycamore, Gay Lynn (Tim) Wons of Naperville and Megan (Tom) Petit of Sycamore; eight great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Matthew Bohlig of Sycamore, Lauren, Lindsay, Ryan and Alexander Wons of Naperville and Baylie and Nathan Petit of Sycamore; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee, in 1995; brother, Theodore Etzbach; sister, Inez Landers; nephew, Michael Landers; and her parents.
The family would like to thank all the staff members at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center for their skilled and loving treatment to their mother and grandmother during her stay.
The family also would like to recognize DeKalb County Hospice for its compassionate involvement.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Restland Cemetery in Mendota.
