Dorothy Louise Schoenholz, 93, of Paw Paw, died October 14, 2011 at the Mendota Lutheran Home. She was born on February 11, 1918 to Charles and Vera (McCreight) Barrington in Warren County, IL.
When she was 6 years old the family moved to Norwood near Alexis, IL. She attended the Norwood Grade School, Alexis High School, and graduated from Bradley University in 1939, where she majored in Home Economics. She taught at Good Hope and Aledo High Schools and later at Malta High School. She went to Lee County as an Extension Adviser in 1942.
She married Raymond Schoenholz, of Paw Paw, on November 24, 1944 in the Norwood Presbyterian Church. They were married 66 years. She was a member in her early years at the Norwood Church where she taught Sunday school. She was in 4H and was also a 4H leader. She played the violin in the Alexis High School Orchestra. After her marriage, she joined the Paw Paw United Methodist Church where she was a member until her death. She belonged to the Methodist Women’s Society and the Wyoming Unit of Home Extension of Lee County. Since 1978, she and her husband have spent their winters in Marco Island and Naples, FL and later in Harlingen, TX.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; two sons, Charles (Sue) Schoenholz of Mendota and Ronald (Janna) Schoenholz of Paw Paw; five grandchildren, Kim (Mike) Dornick of Mendota, Kyle (Nicole) Schoenholz of Amboy, Kendra (Danny) Kwan, presently in Afghanistan, Garrett (Ashley) Schoenholz of rural Paw Paw, and Evan Schoenholz of Paw Paw; five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, and Josh Dornick of Mendota, Charlie Schoenholz of Amboy, and Jocelyn Schoenholz of Paw Paw; a sister, Donna Litchfield of Rio, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Bernice McCaw and Frances McKelvey.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, 370 Wiley Avenue, in Paw Paw with Pastor Ken Foster officiating. The family will be present at 10:30 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Louise’s name may be directed to a fund established at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church.
