Chester W. “Chet” Gaines Jr., 69, of Rockford, died September 12, 2014. He was born in Corbin, KY on November 8, 1944 to Chester and Sarah Gaines. He retired from the Rockford Police Department and was the founder of Executive Protection and Investigations.

His is survived by his children, Chad (Nanette) Gaines and Jennifer (Sam) Schubert; grandchildren, Christopher, Liz, Savana, Julia, Ashley, Brandon, and Justin; a great-grandchild, Liam; former wife, Jennene; and sisters, Connie (Gary) Shannon and Cheryl (Bill Hicks) Gaines.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Samuel Jr. and Patrick.

Visitation will be from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Creekwood Baptist Church, 7281 Olde Creek Road, in Rockford. A funeral service will follow at 12 P.M.

  11. Chet was an amazing man and will be dearly missed. He taught me a lot, and I will be forever grateful for his gratitude.

  12. Chet has always been a part of our lives. He and his mom spent time with us when his dad was in the military, he came to visit Earl and I a number of times in Kankakee. And he “gave me away” when we got married! 2 years ago, he made the trip to AZ for our son’s memorial service. Over the years we’ve talked on the phone many times. We’ll miss you, Chet!
