Gale C. Haines, 92, of Mendota, passed away January 15, 2015 at Mendota Community Hospital. Gale was born December 11, 1922 in Scarboro, IL to Victor and Mabel (Willman) Haines.
At one time, he owned and operated the Hub Tavern and later Charlie’s Antiques. He also owned the Senior Citizens Apartments and the Haines Hotel. Over the years, he met a lot of different people. He also had a great love of harness horse racing and, over the years, donated trophies to winners at the Mendota Race Track. He loved going to auctions, fishing, bowling, hunting, and the Wall Street Journal. He really lived and enjoyed most of his 92 years.
Gale is survived by two sons, Gale R. “Butch” (Beth) Haines of Mendota, and his daughter, Kayla Haines, and Michael Haines of Mendota, and his children, Tiffany and Zachary; two daughters, Denise Jones of Kentucky and Debbie of Sublette; thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He will also be sadly missed by Gladys and their dog “Lady.”
He was preceded in death by his mom and dad; a brother, Forest and his wife, Doris; a sister, Virginia and her husband, Cliff Wyatt.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Torman Funeral Home in Paw Paw.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Grove Cemetery in Scarboro, IL.
