Agnes C. Clemons, 70, of Lafayette, IN, formerly of Paw Paw, IL, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the home she shared with her daughter. She was born October 9, 1944 in West Brooklyn, IL, the daughter of Earl and Marie (Jeanblanc) Mellott. She was united in marriage to Wilbur “Cookie” Clemons on March 31, 1978, at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Brooklyn, IL. Cookie preceded her in death on April 13, 2000.
Agnes worked as a welder for many years. She worked for Mayrath in Compton, IL, Hart-Carter in Mendota, IL, and Caterpillar in Aurora, IL. After her work at Caterpillar, she went to work for the United States Postal Service for 19 years. She retired from the USPS in 2001. She liked to travel, especially to visit her daughter. She loved going to the casino, playing cards, and shopping. She loved animals, especially the Shetland Sheepdogs she had while living in Illinois and the cat, Blackie, she had while living with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Mellott Watson of Lafayette, IN; a brother, Dale (Marilyn) Mellott of LaSalle, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cecelia; a son-in-law, Daniel Watson; and her siblings Ethel Kerchner, Esther Hubbard, Donald Mellott, Ruth Ann Heinzeroth, and Mary Jane Jackson.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2520 Johnson Street, West Brooklyn, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in West Brooklyn.

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of, Mrs. Clemons. With all her accomplishments, her love and joys, she was an amazing woman! I won’t pretend to know what you’re going through, but what has helped me deal with the loss of those I love is turning to the Scriptures, something that has been a real source of comfort. One Scripture that gives me hope is John 11:25, which says, ” Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” I hope that this verse will also comfort you and, I hope you and your family can get through this difficult time.
