Darlene I. Merriman, 91, of Compton, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Darlene was born May 6, 1924, in Compton, the daughter of George and Mabel (Cardot) Davis. She married Lloyd A. Merriman on November 23, 1945 in Paw Paw. Lloyd preceded her in death on August 5, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Davis.

Darlene worked at a local manufacturer as a welder in support of her country during World War II. After Lloyd returned from his military service, they were married and Darlene focused on raising her family. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and the outdoors in general. Darlene and Lloyd loved sitting in their backyard, taking in the scenery and enjoying nature. Darlene’s greatest joy in life was spending time with and nurturing her family.

Darlene is survived by three sons, Dennis Merriman of Winchester, KS, Douglas (Dianne) Merriman of Topeka, KS, and David (Brenda) Merriman of Amboy, IL; two daughters, Dixie (Bill) Evans of Winfield, IL and Deana (Alan Shupp) Corrigan of Oglesby, IL; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her sister, Betty (John) Gehant of West Brooklyn, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be from 10:00-10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Paw Paw Bible Church, 410 N. 7th Street, Paw Paw. A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Jonathan Chadbourn and Chaplain Jay LaRette officiating. Interment will follow in Melugin Grove Cemetery in Compton.
