Verna Rose Aughenbaugh, 91, of Compton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Heritage Health in Mendota. Verna was born on July 7, 1926 in Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Herman and Sarah (Madison) Hauge. She was united in marriage to Clifford Aughenbaugh on July 20, 1946 in Compton, IL.

Verna belonged to the Compton United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Compton.

Verna is survived by her husband of 71 years, Clifford Aughenbaugh; three sons, Douglas (Sue) Aughenbaugh of Mendota, Jerry (Marcia) Aughenbaugh of Mendota, and David (Jan) Aughenbaugh of Florida; one daughter, Linda Hoffman of Florida; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Bradley of Eau Claire, WI and Lois Fackleman of Pierre, SD.

In addition to her parents, Verna is preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, and one son, Gary.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Compton United Methodist Church, 139 W. Chestnut St., in Compton, with Pastor Dave Holden officiating. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Mendota.
