Elliott Ray Goble, 77, of Earlville, passed away January 19, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 5, 1934 in Paw Paw, the son of Clifford and Gertrude (Wixom) Goble. He was united in marriage to Betty Luce on August 7, 1954.
Elliott farmed in the Paw Paw/Earlville area for forty years before his retirement. He was involved in a variety of volunteer activities, including the Green Lake Conference Center in Wisconsin and numerous disaster relief efforts. He was active in the Rollo Congregational Church. He proudly served his country in the Army, having been stationed in Japan during the occupation. One of his many passions was weaving handmade rugs, of which he never sold one. He gave them away freely to charitable auctions and friends and family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; children Melody (Don) Gladden of DeKalb, IL and Jonathan (Theresa) Goble of Carmel, IN; grandchildren Jessica (Steve) Sneyd, Jordan (Samantha) Gladden, Claire Goble, Nicholas Goble, Katelynn Goble, Lyndsay Goble, and Dakota Goble; and great-grandchildren Antony Ramos and Olivia Gladden.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, David Goble; a brother, Allen Goble; and sisters, Joy McInerney and Elmora Goble.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 P.M. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Rollo Congregational Church. A funeral service will follow at 3 P.M. at the church with Rev. David Marquardt officiating.

Sorry to hear of Elliot’s passing. He was a terrific neighbor and friend. I remember his great sense of humor and his wonderful laugh. I’m sorry I won’t be able to attend the funeral, because I’m working out of state right now. Elliot will definitely be missed.
