Gary Lee Arjes, 61, of West Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Mendota Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 25, 1954 in Mendota, the son of Jake and Shirley (Locke) Arjes.

For over 35 years, Gary was a dedicated employee of Hornung Tiling Service as well as Brooklyn Township. Gary also served on the West Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department. He was a loyal Chicago Bears and White Sox fan and thoroughly enjoyed NASCAR racing. Gary’s greatest joy, though, was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his children, Jesse (Kristi) Arjes of Dixon, Jacquie Arjes of Mendota, JoLynn Arjes of Earlville, and Jeanna Arjes of West Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Addison and Brooklyn Arjes; a sister, Sharon Murdock of Cedar Point, IL; five brothers, Ken (Connie) Arjes of Mendota, Dennis (Connie) Arjes of Oregon, IL, Kevin (Cindy) Arjes of Marseilles, IL, John Vanderpool of Phoenix, AZ, and Henry (Missy) Vanderpool of Spring Valley, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a sister, Pam Wallace, and a brother-in-law, Albert Murdock.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M., Monday, April 18, 2016 at Torman Funeral Home, 510 Flagg St., in Paw Paw.

A memorial service will be at 1 P.M., Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Ken Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Melugin Grove Cemetery.

Memorials in Gary’s name may be directed to the West Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department or Mendota Area Senior Services.

  6. Memories of ball games, music concerts and bowling team bring smiles to my face just like Gary Lee always did. He was a hoot and he will be missed.
