John Everett Morton, 81, of Earlville, went to his rest in Jesus at Heartland Health Care Center of Henry, surrounded by family, Saturday, October 19, 2019.
John was born on a cotton farm near Ingomar, MS on September 10, 1938 to Vardeman and Lela Bell (Hamblin) Morton. He enlisted in the US Army Reserve, training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He married the love of his life, Donna Chapman, September 22, 1957 in Sheridan, IL.

John worked at many trades: factory, machinist, truck driver, mechanic, and, the one he was most proud of, batching the concrete for Strontia Springs Dam in Littleton, CO as well as the first three pours for the Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, FL. He attended the Sheridan Seventh-day Adventist Church.

John is survived by his wife, Donna; one sister, Rose Kessler; five children, Cynthia (James) Clark of Centennial, CO, John Allen and Dean Morton of Sheridan, Janet Harnden of Hennepin, IL, and Brian (Shawn) Morton of Yakima, WA; 7 grandchildren, David Price, John Everett Morton II, Heather (Michael) Heinrich, John (Jessica Brown) Luttrell, Andrew and Cody Luttrell, and Cynnandra (Jacob) Hilde; and 8 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Earnest and Herbert Gene Morton; and 2 sisters, Mary Sue Morton and Maggie Lee Knowles.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the Sheridan Seventh-day Adventist Church, 200 W Church St. in Sheridan with Pastor Frendell Reyes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. We look forward to resurrection morning when Jesus comes to claim his own and we are all united in heaven.
