Michael Donald Johnson, 69, of Paw Paw, IL passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at his home. He was born September 8, 1953, in Batavia, IL, the son of Donald and JoAnn (Morical) Johnson.
Mike is survived by six children: Shane Johnson of Newark, IL; Jennifer (Paul) Hollenback of Paw Paw, IL; Matthew (Scott Rusch) Hoffman of St. Charles, IL; Chris (Jennifer) Johnson of Wichita, KS; Kevin (Aubrey) Johnson of Paw Paw, IL; and Katie (Levi Ford) Johnson of Utica, IL; eight grandchildren; two siblings, Carol Morgan of Cedar Rapids, IA and Phillip Johnson of Leland, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was an avid hunter and outdoorsman from an early age. Mike enjoyed deer and fowl hunting throughout the seasons and sharing his experiences with friends and family. Mike was also a passionate gardener, fisherman and businessman. Mike started M. Johnson & Sons as a tree service and soil company in Batavia and relocated with his family to Paw Paw in 1985. In addition to his excavation and landscaping business Mike was a builder, welder and woodworker. Mike built his own home, designed and crafted furniture while also welding custom implements for his excavators and tractors. As an outdoorsman Mike embraced rural life and stocked his farmstead with chickens, guineafowl, geese, peacocks, pigs, rabbits and provided rescue for wildlife in need. Always dressed in his favorite camouflage, Mike thrived in the bounty of nature and the company of others and will be remembered for his work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit and love of others and the great outdoors.
In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his infant sister Susan and his infant granddaughter Aubrey.
Cremation care has been provided by Torman Funeral Home of Paw Paw, IL. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at 3’s Company Bar in West Brooklyn.
