Robert E. Smith, 82, formerly of Earlville, passed away January 13, 2012 at the Sandwich Rehabilitation Health Care Center in Sandwich. He was born July 3, 1929, the son of Earl and Florence (Zinke) Smith. He was united in marriage to Helen Snokes.
Robert worked as a mason contractor for most of his life. He also raised horses for harness racing, including the very successful Incredible Tilly.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Robert Junior Smith; a brother, Earl Smith Jr.; sisters Darlene Volkert, Rogene Einehouse, and LaVerne Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Raymond L. Smith, and a sister, Gwendolyn Ketchum.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Wyoming Township Cemetery in Paw Paw. Rev. Ken Foster officiating.
